Galactic Void: A Deep Dive into Game Development
Galactic Void" began as a narrative-driven 2D platformer and evolved into a focus on refining gameplay mechanics and level design, powered by the Godot engine and GDScript.
Development Journey Spanning weeks 4 to 15, the project focused on iterative learning of the Godot engine and GDScript, starting with developing player movement as the core gameplay element. As my proficiency grew, so did the game, evolving through constant refactoring and feedback integration.
Strategic Focus I strategically chose to focus on crafting a single, high-quality level, balancing ambition with practicality within the project's time constraints, with the goal of a more complete gameplay experience.
Technical Adaptation Transitioning from C++ to GDScript posed initial challenges but soon led to significant improvements in character animations and movement mechanics, highlighting my adaptability and technical proficiency.
Future Aspirations Galactic Void' is evolving from its current side-scroller form into a portfolio demo, with enriched narrative and artistic elements. The next goal is to transition this demo into a full-fledged 2D open-world adventure game, guided by user feedback for ongoing enhancements.
Galactic Void' is more than a game; it's a reflection of my journey in software development, illustrating my growing skills in game design, my resilience in overcoming technical challenges, and my commitment to continuously learning and adapting to new technologies.
